A longtime member of Friends of Timberline and a key contributor to the lodge’s restoration and preservation efforts, Sarah Munro will explore the history of Timberline Lodge and its extraordinary New Deal–era artwork. Her talk will highlight the wide range of artistic media found throughout the lodge—wood, textiles, metalwork, watercolors, lithographs, etchings, paintings, and glass mosaics—and introduce the artists and craftspeople whose work helped make Timberline a national treasure.
About the Speaker
Sarah Baker Munro studied Anthropology and Art History at Pitzer College and earned an MA in Folklore from the University of California, Berkeley. She is the author of Timberline Lodge: The History, Art, and Craft of an American Icon. Her work has included National Register of Historic Places documentation, extensive research and publications on Timberline Lodge, and authorship of a Multiple Property Documentation form for Oregon New Deal resources. She currently serves on the State Advisory Committee for Historic Preservation and the Advisory Committee for the Oregon Living New Deal.
