The Mahre brothers will discuss their long history of training and racing at the summer ski camps on Mt Hood, as well as tell stories about their experiences with the US Ski Team at the World Cup and Olympics.
They have been exceedingly generous in allowing our Museum to exhibit their gold and silver medals from the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics in our Winter Olympics exhibit this year.
Doors at the Museum open at 6:30 pm. $5 admission at the door. Beer, wine, and sodas available for purchase.
About the Mahre brothers
The Mahre brothers are legends among US ski racers. Growing up at the White Pass ski area near Yakima, WA, they have participated in the Mt Hood summer ski camps since their early teens.
They joined the US Ski Team in the early 70’s, and debuted on the World Cup circuit in 1975. Phil won (27) World Cup victories and made (69) podiums. Steve won (9) World Cup victories and made (21) podiums.
They competed at the 1976 and 1980 Olympics, and then created a sensation winning both gold (Phil) and silver (Steve) in the men’s slalom at the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo.
Since retiring from the US Team in 1984, they have been ski coaches and ski guides at the Mahre Training Center in Deer Valley Utah. For the last (15) years, including 2026, the Mahre brothers have done summer coaching on Mt Hood with the Ligety-Weibrecht ski camps, teaching a weekend camp for adult Masters racers.
We hope you’ll join us for a fun and educational evening with two of the most famous “graduates” of the summer ski camps on Mt Hood.
